Kawartha Lakes – At the January 28 Council meeting, the new Strategic Plan for 2020-2023 was adopted by Council.
The draft plan was received as printed, with the exception of the following addition to the Guiding Principles section:
“We will consider the environmental impact of our decisions, in accordance with best management practices, while balancing our other strategic priorities.”
The new language was motioned by Councillor Richardson who stated, “We are already taking many positive steps to protect and enhance the environment. This will add one more reminder of how important it is for all of us to consider the impact our decisions have on the environment.”
The vision for the future is: Thriving and growing communities within a healthy and natural environment. This vision speaks to the ongoing goal of balancing growth and prosperity with protecting and enhancing our environment.
This plan has four guiding principles, or lenses through which all actions are evaluated:
“With strong engagement from the public, stakeholder groups and staff, the new Strategic Plan has been finalized and will continue to keep our momentum going,” said Andy Letham, Mayor of Kawartha Lakes. “Council appreciates everyone’s collaboration and contributions to this plan and we look forward to realizing our vision together.”
Next steps include the creation of a final document to be brought to Council on March 10. Following that, detailed action plans, success measures and a tracking system will be developed throughout 2020. Progress will be reported on throughout the life of the plan.
