Rural Zoning By-law now in effect

October 8, 2026

Council adopted the Rural Zoning By-law (RZBL) on May 21, 2024. Appeals were subsequently filed with the Ontario Land Tribunal, which meant the City continued to administer the former township zoning by-laws while the appeals were outstanding.

The appeals have now been withdrawn or decided by the Tribunal, and the Tribunal has closed its appeal file. The Rural Zoning By-law is therefore in force and effect.

The City is now administering the Rural Zoning By-law for lands within its applicable area. Staff are also preparing transition provisions to address certain applications and approvals made while the appeals were before the Tribunal. Further information will be posted as it becomes available.

The "Council Approved Rural Zoning By-law" is available on the right side of the project's main Jump In page.
