The Parks Master Plan is in Progress!
The City of Kawartha Lakes is happy to share that, as a result of the Parks and Recreation Strategic Plan (2025), we are starting work on a new Parks Master Plan. This project aims to create a better and more connected parks system that meets the different needs of our community.
We are looking at possible improvements such as:
- Upgrades to local and destination parks
- More walking paths and better connections between parks
- More seating and shaded areas
- New features and amenities
- Better access to waterfront areas
- New parks creation
As part of this Master Plan want to hear from you! We'll be hosting several events where you can share your thoughts on how satisfied you are with the parks, what's important to you, and what you envision for the future of parks in Kawartha Lakes.
Goals for community engagement initiatives:
- Know Our Parks: Understand how parks are spread out, how easy they are to get to, and how well they connect with each other.
- Recognize Current Use and Satisfaction: Find out what people think about parks and their features, like city beaches, playgrounds, boat ramps, sports fields, skate parks, open areas, trails, dog parks, splash pads, community gardens, and more.
- Identify Challenges: Look for any issues that make it hard to use the parks, such as accessibility, parking, or safety concerns.
- Evaluate Existing Parks: Take a close look at the current parks to see what is done well, and what needs improvement, and what opportunities or challenges they face.
- Understand Community Needs: Figure out how local residents, visitors, and community groups can make the best use of park spaces.
- Explore Partnership Opportunities: Look at how the city can team up with community groups, organizations, and service providers to improve parks and open spaces.
