Locally, the Kawartha Lakes economy has been challenged. A resilient community, many local businesses and organizations have made tremendous efforts to re-orient and adapt their processes. However, there's a need for everyone involved to strategically work towards economic recovery. We have established two Task Forces to make recommendations to Council on how to best assist our community recover.

Economic Recovery Task Force
The mission of the Economic Recovery Task Force is to equip the municipality to stimulate local economic recovery. Immediate priorities are: critical infrastructure investments, planning and development stimulus, and business recovery and support.

Community Pandemic Recovery Task Force

The mission of the Community Pandemic Recovery Task Force is the coordination and implementation of recovery and relief efforts to support non-profit and community service providers in the broader health and human services sector. Immediate priorities are to identify gaps in service delivery and identification of funding opportunities and resources needed by the sector.

    Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy (CERS)

    Canadian businesses, non-profit organizations, or charities who have seen a drop in revenue due to the COVID-19 pandemic may be eligible for a subsidy to cover part of their commercial rent or property expenses, starting on September 27, 2020, until June 2021.

    This subsidy will provide payments directly to qualifying renters and property owners, without requiring the participation of landlords.

    If you are eligible for the base subsidy, you may also be eligible for lockdown support if your business location is significantly affected by a public health order for a week or more.

    Ontario Trillium Foundation Resilience Communities Fund

    The upcoming deadline for the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s (OTF) Resilient Communities Fund is now Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at 5 pm ET.

    This update gives more time for applicants to access the supports and resources needed to submit a Resilient Communities Fund application.

    Government of Canada support for businesses and organizations

    The Government of Canada is introducing new, targeted supports to help hard-hit businesses and other organizations experiencing a drop in revenue. The government plans to introduce legislation to provide support that would help these businesses safely get through the second wave of the virus and the winter, cover costs so they can continue to serve their communities, and be positioned for a strong recovery, including:

    Rural Innovation Initiative Eastern Ontario (RIIEO)

The KLCFDC is looking to fund projects with a total cost (exclusive of HST) between $5,000 - $10,000.     Bobcaygeon & Area COVID-19 Relief Fund

    This Relief Fund managed by the Community Foundation of Kawartha Lakes will provide immediate assistance for people affected by COVID-19 in the Bobcaygeon area. Decisions on distribution of the funds will be made by a group of Bobcaygeon area Advisors, led by Councillor Kathleen Seymour-Fagan, working together with the Foundation.

    All donations go toward providing immediate support to Bobcaygeon and area patients, families, or health care workers in need of financial assistance, and may also include food supplies, transportation, technology, and mental wellness counselling.
