While a standard map shows roads and buildings, a cultural map is designed to capture the heart of a community: its shared stories, favourite gathering places, local traditions, and creative spaces.
Kawartha Lakes is mapping all eight wards to identify and document the rich, diverse cultural history, cultural sites, art groups, resources, and personal stories that define the Kawartha Lakes identity.
There are three ways for community members to get involved:
Kawartha Lakes Cultural Mapping Activity is where community members can work together to map our culture! This activity is designed for participants to share and record cultural locations within Kawartha Lakes.
This interactive activity will require assistance as the goal is to trace and create ones map by using their silhouettes. Participants will get the opportunity to share their favourite locations within the Kawartha Lakes by answering questions and expressing their experiences through their created map.

This activity will need lots of open space for movement as each person will be outlined onto a large piece of paper, this stencil will represent each participants cultural map.
