On June 24, 2025, Council received report WM2025-006 Post Transition Blue Box Services Update.

At the meeting, Council decided that the municipality will continue to collect blue box material from residential and commercial sources at all of our landfill sites in 2026. To help offset some of the recycling program costs that are no longer funded by the province or producers, fees will be applied to all sources of recycling brought to landfills starting in 2026.

The province's regulations continue to evolve. Recently there have been requests to amend the Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act and the Blue Box Regulation. The proposed changes are primarily focused on reducing obligations and targets for Producer Responsibility Organizations (PROs).
